Transmissions

MTP Drivetrain Services supplies service and support of all (HD,MD,2000,3000,&4000) series Allison transmissions used in military truck applications which are found in 90% of the military truck fleet. MTP conducts rebuilding on Allison products using in-house, certified technicians and OEM or Aftermarket parts. MTP also re-manufactures Caterpillar Military transmissions along with General Motors transmissions such as the 3L80, 4L80E, 4L85E family of transmissions for the HMMWV fleet of trucks.

MTP is in the transmission rebuild business and thus we buy “hard parts” such as new input shafts and counter shafts as well as possess a huge core inventory of many military vehicle transmissions. Our remanufacturing process starts as the core arrives into the facility. The transmission core is inspected as it is disassembled to determine the rebuild ability of that core. All parts are then thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Transmission parts that fail inspection are disposed of and listed on the work order. The work order parts list is then filled with new bearings, synchronizer rings, gaskets, seals, and other necessary hard parts as dictated by each government contract. The transmission to be rebuilt is then taken to a rebuilder for assembly. Like the engines, each technician assigned to rebuild a transmission is only assigned that transmission. Each transmission that we rebuild will be dyno tested to perfection. To detect leaks of any kind we use a tracer dye. A computer generated test result is returned with the product. The types of transmissions we work on are as follows:

Allison HT740D (2520-01-257-3880) and others

The types of Allison Transmission models that we may handle include 3000 RDS, 4000 RDS, 2200 HS, 3000 HS, and 3000 MH. Restrictions on what we can re-manufacture may apply.

Specific to Allison Transmissions, the HT740D is a power transmission capable of carrying up to 130,000 pound vehicle weight. It is an effective transmission for multiple application types. Its filter system is external and remotely mounted. The cooler is also remotely mounted. This type of transmission is perfect for most military tactical vehicles in the U.S. military.

When it comes to General Motors Transmissions, there are numerous versions out there in all types of vehicles. Typically, we only handle transmissions specific to military tactical vehicles such as the 3070 (2520-01-467-8473). Much like the Allison series, General Motors Transmissions are capable of handling multiple or specific types of applications.

Transmission Dynamometers

MTP utilizes two transmission dynamometers; these advanced pieces of equipment give us the flexibility to test both the high and low duty transmissions in the military vehicle fleet. Every transmission that our technicians work on is tested at the end of each re-manufacturing cycle ensuring that it is tailored to customer specifications. This final step enables MTP to provide the comprehensive warranty that we offer as well as give us the peace of mind knowing that our fighting men and women have reliable, well tested drivetrain components to help them move on the battle field.

The types of transmissions we work on are not restricted by the list mentioned above.
